CBCA Short Listed Books 2013

Every year, the Children's Book Council of Australia creates a short list of some of Australia's best new children's books. One book from each category is selected to be Book of the Year and  winners are announced during Book Week. The books below are three of the seven shortlisted books in the Younger Readers category. They all set during World War Two.

Sonya Hartnett mixes historical fiction and fantasy in this intriguing story of three children evacuated to the country during World War II. The Children of the King tells happens when they go to live on their uncle's estate and discover two boys hiding in castle ruins.

Recommended for Years 6 to 9

is Morris Gleitzman's fourth book in a series about a young Jewish boy called Felix. Set in Poland in World War Two, this novel continues the story as Felix joins the partisans in the forest.

Recommended for Years 7 and up

A Day to Remember wide
